Reno: A Theory Perspective

Our three theorists, Mill, Meiklejohn, and Redish all coalesced around a central theme of ideas needing space to breathe in order for them to exist as what they are… ideas. Without this space, ideas can fall into the trap of becoming dogma. Through connecting our theorists to the case itself, we highlighted why the supreme court ruled the way that it did and also why the initial proposition ultimately led to a chilling effect – something that all three theorists would be vehemently against.
